If you are planning your Alta Via N1, first of all congratulations!
Alta Via N1 is the Queen of trekkings in the Dolomites so you couldn’t make a better decision..
From Braies lake to Belluno passing close to lovely spots such as Tofane, Mount Pelmo and Mount Civetta.
Dolomites will remain forever in your heart!
From June to September when the huts are open.
So check the opening before you get on your way!
And keep in mind that you should always book in advance to secure a bed in the refuges.
According to the official schedule it takes 12 days.
It is divided into 12 daily stages but all depends on you.
You have little time and you are trained? You can merge a few stages.
Do you want to enjoy some relaxingmoments? Then consider a few extra days.
When you plan this adventure keep in mind an important factor..
Make sure you have a reservation in the huts.
Alta Via N1 is increasingly frequented and the huts along the classic route have almost reached the saturation of beds.
In the non CAI Refuges – CAI means Italian Alpine Club – your ‘walk-in’ booking can be easily refused. In fact, private huts are not obliged to give hospitality at all costs.
Looking for an accomodation in the huts near the classic route has become a common practice. Basically it does not take anything away from the magic atmospher of the Alta Via N1.
Resuming, getting on the Alta Via N1 without reservations is possible but it could be risky.
Take action in time!
Aquileia Hut is less than one-hour walk from Rifugio Città di Fiume (about 45-50 minutes).
